Thieves Wood

Thieves Wood is part of the ancient and historic Royal Forest of Sherwood, and used to provide timber for Nottingham Castle. The wood, which is managed by the Forestry Commission, consists of approximately 200 hectares of pine forest, providing ideal conditions for woodland walks, cycling and horse riding (although a permit for horse riding is required). The wood is also home to a variety of interesting wildlife, and suitable for picnics.

Address: Coxmoor Road, between Kirkby-in-Ashfield and Sutton-in-Ashfield. The Wood includes a visito centre and, just across the A60, lies Portland Training College, where there is a coffee shop and craft centre.
